In today's global workplace, a resume is the most valuable marketing tool to showcase your professional personality. Major employers in Asia Pacific, the Americas and the Middle East are often multi-national corporations and resume expectations, both professionally and culturally, vary by country.

A resume, 'summary' in French, is the common format used in North America and includes work history, professional experience and education. This is not the case in academia or medicine, where the CV is preferred because it tends to be longer than a resume (ten+ pages versus two) and contains a comprehensive list of achievements, publications, honors, awards, responsibilities, etc.

Personal information beyond basic contact information is never included in North America and requesting this could be considered grounds for discrimination. Additionally, personal interests/hobbies are not included unless relevant to the position. Exceptional work performance is highlighted as is success and accomplishments.
